Social Movement For All Citizens

All the auto-rickshaws running in the entire MMRDA region needed to have a standard fare throughout the MMRDA region. Different fares and changing of auto-rickshaws at check-naka was a big headache for all commuting citizens. This problem was never addressed by politicians, for reasons known to them. Having understood the adverse consequences we may face while addressing this issue did not dissuade us. We took up this big issue from the streets to the highest office of the state; we as a team worked hard for 2 years, were covered by local & national newspapers and got the result. Today, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region has a standard fare throughout its entire region. It is helping citizens to move freely in an auto-rickshaw in its designated region.

Today the citizens are enjoying the benefits of it, without even realising the hard work, sacrifices & efforts that were put by all our volunteers. We were not rewarded, may not be remembered by our fellow citizens, but history will never forget our hard work. Moreover, Nature records every action in the realms of time & will never forget it. The satisfaction of achieving a social objective benefiting numerous people will motivate us forever.

Social movement for women

Our society can progress only if the entire society is given the chance to move forward. We can never progress if we keep a section of society deprived of its privileges. Yes! Women & certain communities have been forbidden to participate in the decision-making process of our society. This discrimination has created a rift among citizens, classifying them into primary and secondary citizens. We need to involve every citizen, but first & foremost the female, which constitutes 50% of our population. If women from every community participate in the running of our society, only then we can achieve 100% progress. Leaving the weaker section out of the society will never benefit us or the future generations. If all citizens become part of the progress, only then all citizens will reap the fruits of it.
To appraise the society about discrimination and division in our society, ISK made a few attempts. I made 2 short films to address the issue of women, “Kapde nahin Soch badlo” and “Being a Woman”. Both of these films presently live on YouTube are an eye-opener for our society; there is still more to do and more topics within our society to deal with, and that’s our future plan.

Social movement for Environment

As per environment reports, our green cover has decreased, temperatures are rising every year, carbon footprint is increasing; blocks & blocks of icebergs at the Antarctic are melting. In some place seawater is losing its salinity, at some place the salinity is too much and at some place too many pollutants. Oceans have become the dumping ground for the multinational corporations and seafaring ships, which are used to transport goods and oil. Aquatic life is in danger and so are forests & its natives due to deforestation. Floods have increased their frequency in the plains, fires are engulfing huge amounts of forests, mountains are witnessing regular landslides and desert regions are facing acute dry climate. In coming years, potable drinking water may become the rarest commodity; soil will grow crops laden with incurable diseases and face masks with filters will have to be worn, out of compulsion. Can we imagine this for our children?
It is all due to our blind greed, arrogance and ignorant behaviour. We have destroyed nature to such an extent that even if we start today, it will take a minimum of ten years to stop the damage and bulldozing of our environment; forget reversing or regenerating the lost paradise. With growing population and demand for food-crops, sea-food, poultry products, livestock, wood, water, fossil fuels and many more essential items for human survival has left us with indiscriminate destruction of green zones and water bodies. We humans are responsible for the carnage and assault on our environment, and we humans alone will have to take responsibility to protect it.

Me alone cannot bring any change but me alone need to do my part and likewise you to need to participate. I feel it is my duty to stand up to protect & preserve what is left; try awakening my fellow citizens to this harsh reality. With this in my mind, every Sunday I stand on any of the streets of the city with banners in my hand; informing citizens about the abuse we are doing to our environment. We all need to wake up now, it is urgent or else it will be too late. For our next generations we will leave money, property & industries, but what if we do not leave breathable air, drinkable water or usable soil? Will they have a good future? They will curse us, and we will never rest in peace. Let us also leave for them the beautiful flora fauna we inherited from our ancestors; join me if you think you want to do something for environment, let us awaken our fellow citizens and make as many ISKs environment soldiers.
